Hey Everyone! This is my third year of being on the Colorado Youth Advisory Council. Currently i'm a sophmore at Salida High School. I'm always looking for ways to get involved in my school and in my community. In middle school, I was on student council, the lead member of an anti tobacco group called Get R!eal, a member of COYAC, and ran cross country and track for my school. In high school, I have been a competitive varsity cheerleader and a varsity soccer player. Outside of school, I ski, kayak, and mountain bike with my wonderful friends and family. In 2006, I was nominated as the Boys and Girls Club of Chaffee County's "Youth of the Year". This was one of the first steps in finding my true leadership skills. Two summers ago, I attended the National Youth Leadership State Conference in Denver, Colorado. I was nominated first by my history teacher and then a second time by my english teacher. I recieved a third nomination for the next meeting. The council teaches you what it means to be a true leader and how a true leader should act. The conference was a great way to make new friends, express yourself, and learn some helpful hints. I take my role as a leader very seriously. I strive to set a good example for my peers and always try to be the helping hand. I love being the person that anyone can come to and feel like they can express themselves without being judged or ridiculed. My intrest in politics and legislation never seems to quit growing. On the council, I serve as a member of the Membership committee and the Chair of the Social Health Committee. Im super excited to see us grow as a council and really make some great changes for today's youth. The council is looking great and I have a good feeling about this legisative session.
